Christmas with Maria

Anushka Shivdasani Rovshen

Director, producer, teacher and founder of Running Cow Films, Anushka wears many hats. With over 15 years of experience, she has worked on a wide range of TV commercials, digital content, documentaries and short fiction films.

Some of the brands she has shot for are GE, HP Printers, Raw Pressery, Reliance, Mumbai Indians, Tata Tea, Tata Capital amongst others. Anushka started her career as an AD, Line Producer and Director with Dungarpur Films. She has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was the sole recipient of the Gelman Grant for her thesis film, “Perhaps”. This grant funded another short fiction film “Us Paar” (“The Opposite Shore”). Both these short films have been shown at international festivals. Anushka is also a guest lecturer in documentary filmmaking at Sophia Polytechnic College and Ad filmmaking at Xaviers Institute of Communications.

Anushka thrives on throwing herself wholeheartedly into every thing she does, whether it’s directing, teaching, scuba diving, or being a mom. But for now she’s focused on breaking new ground at Running Cow.

See brilliantly, live brilliantly

Advertising for Pharma reminded me that my true purpose as a filmmaker is to prioritise sensitive, authentic, reliable and trustworthy communication.
Substance over style.

Which director – DOP doesn’t dream of creating cosy coffee shop ambience. After all caffeine is what powers us through many a project ! With the rain pelting outside, Warm, welcoming Starbucks became our home, office and shoot floor. We can still smell the aroma of coffee when we watch this, we hope you can too.

Some of our best films have been made by RCF. The best part of working with them is that not only are they technically skilled and detail-oriented, but they also understand the brand’s personality and visual grammar. We look forward to working with them again!

Finance can be daunting and so the motivation behind this idea was to take a simple situation and make a metaphor out it. Using kids conveys how effortless the fundamentals of investing can be.

The New Normal

Is the past the future we want ? 2020 was a year that compels reflection. When the pandemic hit, as filmmakers the only way to channelise emotion was through our work. We felt a need to respond, and to question an economic and social system that is unable to protect its planet or people. As the race to normalcy continues, we feverently hope that we DON’T return to “the normal” we once accepted.

Thank you is simply not enough to every single collaborator who believed in this idea and supported in slowly growing it into a film, without anything in return.

EIGHT

Eight

Sometimes it takes just one person to change your life. “Eight” took Gul Panang down memory lane as we tried to capture what was in her mind’s eye without actually visiting any of the spaces where her life was made. What resulted was an art director’s and cinematographer’s dream film.
